'We are treating it as a criminal investigation,' Fargo police say about missing pregnant woman

Lighting up the holidays

To steal a phrase from that popular holiday song...It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

The community is alive with lights, and the new fallen snow that now blankets the ground only adds to the aura of the landscape.

Driving to work in the still of darkness this morning this became more apparent than ever, with lights shining brightly and brilliantly in every direction as far as the eye could see.

Very soon City crews will also be adding to the aesthetics of the season, completing their annual ritual of hanging Christmas decorations along Sheyenne Street and Main Avenue. Thirty decorations have already been strung along Main, and weather permitting, crews will place the rest of the decorations (17) this week along Sheyenne St., which will see an all-new style of décor gracing the well-traveled, 'old downtown' roadway.

On a lighting-related note, two special events are being promoted for the holidays in the West Fargo community for as many residents as possible to be a part of and enjoy.

Monday night the Mayor and a little helper, to be determined, will flip the switch that will light up the tree in front of City Hall during West Fargo's official Tree Lighting Ceremony.

This is a fun event for the whole family and one I would encourage all of you to attend.

There will be music, conversation, and a special visit with Santa, with treats for all the children.

Last year, the event saw an overflow crowd and organizers are anticipating a repeat this year.

With the festivities taking place outdoors, those attending are encouraged to bundle up.

The ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., so be sure and mark the date and time on your calendar.

The West Fargo Park District will also be hosting a special event - a Holiday Light Ride on Tuesday, Dec. 11, for which there are still seats open on the bus.

The tour will leave North Elmwood Park at 6 p.m. and last a couple of hours, with the bus driving by a variety of West Fargo homes all decked out for the holidays, then moving onto the 'best of the best' in Fargo, if time allows.

Pre-registration for this event is required and can be completed by contacting the West Fargo Park District at 433-5360.
