Silver Dollar gearing up for spring

With spring now upon us, Kurt Lepird and his crew at The Silver Dollar are gearing up for a busy 'warm weather' season that will kick off with one of their biggest events of the year, the 10th Annual Charity Motorcycle Run, with proceeds benefiting the local Ronald McDonald houses.

For those of you planning your calendars a little bit in advance, this popular event has been set for Saturday, May 24, with registration from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. The ride leaves promptly at noon for stops at a variety of poker run destinations before ending up back at the Silver Dollar for a complimentary meal, included with the original cost of participating in the ride.

More details on the event will be posted as they unfold on the Silver Dollar's convenient Web site at

Lepird owns and operates the full-service Silver Dollar bar and accompanying restaurant - Choppers Grill - located at 221 Sheyenne St.

Everything you need to know about the 30-plus year-old business is available online, including complete bar amenities, and menu information for Choppers Grill. 'Dig the pig' is the common phrase when it comes to menu items, with portions large enough to satisfy the biggest appetite, whether you're hungry for Ape Hanger Nachos, signature sandwiches, like the more unique Bikes, Leather and Tattoos or Jamaican Chick, or a traditional burger or chicken sandwich, complete with all the made-to-order toppings. Lepird is proud to say that his sandwich menu is truly one-of-a-kind. "The food is excellent and you won't find our unique choice of sandwiches anywhere else," Lepird said. "And you certainly won't go away hungry."

With warmer temperatures imminent, guests will also be able to enjoy the outdoor patio area soon, which Lepird also hopes to implement for a number of outdoor cooking experiences.

A complete calendar of events is also posted online for those wishing to know what's happening on a regular basis, including the ever-popular Karoake the first Saturday of the month. Pool and darts can also be enjoyed everyday in the backroom area of the bar, along with daily gaming featuring blackjack and pull-tabs, with all proceeds benefiting the West Fargo Volunteer Fire Department.

Community involvement and 'giving back' is also high on Lepird's list, with his main source of reciprocating sponsorship of several West Fargo and Fargo softball teams. He is also pleased to serve as host bar for the friendly, afternoon games of pinochle played daily.

The Silver Dollar is also known for its regular Happy Hour, featuring a variety of drink specials, observed Monday through Saturday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Regular evening specials are also offered in Choppers Grill. Lunch and supper hours in the Grill are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. over the noon hour, and 6 to 9 p.m. in the evening, Monday through Saturday. The Silver Dollar Bar is open Sunday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Anyone seeking catering services should also check out Lepird's Flying Pig Catering, with a portable wagon that can accommodate any location. This menu features shredded smoked pork and chicken, beef brisket, and smoky spicy sausage, as well as a variety of other items and side dishes.
