Military concert and BBQ to be held at Fargo Air Museum

In honor of Memorial Day and our American veterans, West Funeral Homes and Minnesota State University Moorhead are sponsoring a free public Military Concert and BBQ at the Fargo Air Museum on Tuesday, May 13. This will be the third year the event has been held to honor our military.

Sgt. Steve Hoikkala will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the concert featuring the North Dakota 188th Army Band Dixieland Combo. Guest speaker will be Elbe Sexton, an honored World War II veteran.

A BBQ dinner will be served from 5:30 to 7 p.m. with the program and concert at 7 p.m. Private Snafu training cartoons will be shown prior to the program. Naomi Bradbury-Marchand, Family Service Director at West Funeral Homes, will give the welcome. Posting of the Colors will be performed by the West Fargo High School Junior ROTC, and the National Anthem will be sung by members of the Fargo South Girls' Choir.

The BBQ dinner will include burgers, potato salad, beans, chips, dessert, coffee and pop. Flags will be handed out, along with Patriotic candy, Forget-Me-Not flower seed packets, red Buddy Poppies, and yellow "I Am Military History" ribbons. Participants will be asked to plant the Forget-Me-Not flowers in remembrance of veterans injured or disabled in the line of duty while serving their country, and to wear a red poppy in honor of the military that have served or are currently serving in combat.
