West Fargo man sentenced for exposing himself to children
FARGO - A 29-year-old West Fargo man accused of exposing his genitals to seven children was sentenced this morning to two years of supervised probation in connection with the case.
Jeffrey Lee Buckmeier had previously entered an Alford plea to one of eight indecent exposure charges he faced. The plea, which means he does not admit responsibility but acknowledges a jury might return a guilty verdict based on the evidence, alleged he had exposed himself to a 3-year-old.
East Central Judicial District Court Judge Steven Marquart sentenced Buckmeier to one year, first to serve 45 days, with the remaining time suspended while he serves two years of supervised probation.
Marquart gave Buckmeier credit for 45 days spent in custody and at Prairie St. John's in Fargo, meaning Buckmeier will not serve any additional time.
Buckmeier apologized for his actions during the appearance in Cass County District Court, saying he takes responsibility although he has no memory of the incidents because he was highly intoxicated at the time.
"He thinks he was drinking about a quart a day at the time," Buckmeier's defense attorney Steve Mottinger told Marquart.
Buckmeier must now register as a sex offender and have no contact with children.
The other seven charges of indecent exposure had previously been dismissed.
