The West Fargo Sheyenne girls swim and dive team volunteered at the Great Plains Food Bank on Oct. 10.

The team packed and prepared 2,052 pounds of frozen food, 56 pounds of bulk food and 501 bags of food for the Backpack program which was enough food for 3,009 meals.

"It makes me aware of how many people in the community suffer from hunger and makes me want to give back to help those in need," Sheyenne swimmer Paulina Bekkum said, "because I don't worry about going hungry."

According to its website, the Great Plains Food Bank is the largest hunger-relief organization in North Dakota. Each year, the food bank helps one in nine individuals who seek emergency food assistance.
