3/4 cup shortening

1 cup granulated sugar

2 eggs

4 tbsp. molasses (1/4 cup)

2 cups flour

1 1/2 tsp. ginger

1/4 tsp. cloves

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 1/2 tsp. baking soda, mix with molasses

1/4 tsp. salt

1 tsp. baking powder

Mix all ingredients well; make into balls the size of walnuts and roll in granulated sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Makes approximately 5 1/2 dozen cookies.

Note: At Christmas time, I dip half of the cooled cookie in melted almond bark and then cool on waxed paper. I have been baking them for over 40 years and they go over well each year with the family during the holidays. Enjoy!!
