Anhydrous Leak in Horace

HORACE, N.D. - Officials have given the all-clear signal here after an anhydrous ammonia leak was contained around 10:40 a.m. today.

A small ammonia cloud was visible but has since dissipated, officials said.

The site of the leak was the Harvest States Elevator south of Horace, said Cass County Administrator Bonnie Johnson.

Emergency reponders had to transfer 30,000 gallons of anhydrous ammonia from the leaking tank to a good tank, Johnson said.

Residents of Horace were notified with a CodeRED call this morning to take shelter, and were later given the all-clear signal.

Officials did not evacuate the area because that would have put people in contact with the chemical, Johnson said.
