Johnson, Rieniets and Berg to head West Fargo VFW, Cooties

Arthur W. Jones Post 7564, Ladies Auxiliary and Military Order of Cooties Pup Tent 8 recently held their election and installation of officers for the 2011-2012 year. Leading the VFW as Post Commander is Craig Johnson, an army veteran who served in Korea. Johnson and his wife, Traci, have lived in West Fargo for 29 years.

Agnes Rieniets is the newly elected President of the Ladies Auxiliary. She and her husband, Kenneth, moved to West Fargo in 1961. Her eligibility of the Auxiliary is through his service in Korea. They have four adult children, eleven grand-children and three great-grandchildren. Rieniets has been a member of the VFW Ladies for 42 years. She worked at the Highway Host Restaurant of Fargo for 26 years and at NDSU food service for 13 years before retiring in December 1999.

Russell Berg was elected Commander of the Military Order of Cooties Pup Tent 8 of West Fargo. Berg, an Air Force veteran who served in Vietnam, is a lifelong resident of Horace, graduating from West Fargo High School in 1964. He and his wife of 40 years, Donna, have two grown daughters. Besides being a life member of the VFW, Berg is also a member of the Horace Lions Club and Cass County Electric Board of Directors for 22 years.

Elected as VFW Post Officers were Michael Weirsma, Sr. Vice Commander; John Thoemke, Jr. Vice Commander; Joy Mikyska, Judge Advocate; Nic Jalbert, Chaplain; Bill Tuff, Quartermaster; and Jamie Olson, Surgeon.

Representing the Post on the House Committee are Bob Geske, Richard Belling, Daryl Best and Jim Hapala.

Elected as Officers for the Auxiliary are Janet Ronning, Sr. Vice President; Janice Best, Jr. Vice President; Jill Shoman, Conductress; Joyce Weible, Treasurer; Genevieve Shoman, Secretary; Grace Thoemke, Chaplain; and Vicki Paradis, Guard. The Trustees are Lulu Tostenson, Mary Ann Hudson and Linda Childs.

Military Order of Cooties Pup Tent 8 "Pack Rats" is the "Honor Degree" of VFW Post 7564. The Cooties are dedicated members who perform duties involving the aid to hospitalized veterans, donating blood and working VFW membership, in addition to the various VFW projects within the Post and Community.

The West Fargo VFW Club, located at 308 Sheyenne St., is open to the public.
