Public open house at new south side fire station

West Fargo Fire Department officials are hosting a Public Open House at their new southside fire station, located at the intersection of 29th Avenue and Fifth Street West, on Tuesday, Oct. 11, from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m.

Fire Chief Roy Schatschneider said the open house is being offered at two different times to allow for those who can't make it during the afternoon to attend in the evening.

Jay Thomas, from WDAY Radio will be broadcasting his three-hour show live in the afternoon, recognizing and interviewing members of the volunteer department as well as speaking with members of the general public.

Tours will also be conducted by the volunteers and refreshments will be served.

"The open house will give people the opportunity to see the new facility and meet and visit with some of the volunteers," Schatschneider said. "We have 42 volunteer firefighters deserving recognition. They really are the people that make the organization work, committing many hours to training and not asking for anything in return."

There will also be drawings later in the evening for door prizes that will be given away, including several smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and fire extinguishers.

Those attending will be able to sign up throughout the day. Drawings will occur later in the evening, with winners notified.

Schatschneider emphasized that there will be no formal program. "Nobody has to be here at any particular time. Those attending can just come and go as they please."
