Moorhead police lieutenant promoted to captain
MOORHEAD — A longtime lieutenant with the Moorhead Police Department has been promoted to the city's only captain.
Tory Jacobson has more than 26 years of law enforcement experience, taking on various ranks and assignments within the department. Chief David Ebinger said Jacobson joined the department in 1991 and over the years has served in patrol, investigations, K9 and SWAT, where he was an assistant commander.
Jacobson became administrative lieutenant in 2008 and his promotion to captain was a decision stemming from a recent citywide classification and compensation study, Ebinger said.
As the city's only captain — a rank not used by the department in decades, Ebinger said — he is placed under only Ebinger and Deputy Chief Shannon Monroe.
With the promotion, Ebinger said Jacobson will still carry out his current duty of serving as the department's public information officer.
