Viola Saice, 82, of Mahnomen, died Saturday, December 8, 2007, at the MeritCare Palliative Care Unit in Fargo.
Viola B. Foster was born to Dan and Viola (Folstrom) Foster on April 9, 1925, in Island Lake, Minn. As a young girl, she attended school in Mahnomen. In 1943, Viola married Saul Saice. The couple continued to live in Mahnomen, where Viola raised their family.
Often inseparable, Viola and her sister Edith enjoyed one another's company and spent endless hours together. In her spare time, she liked playing bingo and making the occasional trip to the casino. Viola also loved spending time with her family and baking bread and cakes.
Surviving Viola are her four daughters, Elizabeth (Gary) Knott of Minneapolis, Carol (LeRoy) Burnside of Hawley, Rose Saice and Debbie (Keith) Abdo both of Mahnomen; one son, Sonny (Rose) Saice of Mahnomen; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; five sisters, Edith Stevens of Waubun, Francis Wilcox of Eugene, Ore., Dale (Lyle) Richmond of Eugene, Ore., Edna Cluff of Anchorage, Alaska and Arlene Dibbles of Boise, Idaho; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Viola in death were her husband; parents; one grandson, Scott; five brothers; three sisters; and her sister Rose's companion, James "Bimbo" Pergl, Jr.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Mahnomen, with the Rev. Rick Lambert officiating. Pallbearers were Gary Knott Jr., Chad Knott, Donnie Saice, Brandy Mueller, Richard Burnside, Jamie Burnside, Dylan Saice and Damien Abdo. All of Viola's great grandchildren served as honorary bearers.
