VFW conducting Memorial Day observance

The West Fargo VFW Post 7564 and the Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting their annual Memorial Day program dedicated to all deceased veterans on Monday, May 27, at 308 Sheyenne St.

The flag raising at 10:45 a.m. will be in honor of the late Joe Shoman, a Marine and longtime West Fargo VFW member who served as past quartermaster. Members of his family including his wife, Gen, also an active VFW Auxiliary member, will be attendance for the occasion.

The 11 a.m program will feature the posting of colors, a prayer, song, and the placing of memorial flags and flowers for members of the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard; as well as the laying of a Memorial Wreath by the Ladies Auxiliary,

Post Commander Mike Wiersma will serve as master of ceremonies. There will also be a featured guest speaker to be announced, special music, and a 21 gun salute and Taps performed by Joseph Best.

The salute to deceased veterans will recognize VFW Post 7564 members who died the past year including: Leonard Baklund, Thomas Blair, Mervin Braun, Donald Brekke, Edwin Diede, Donald Dolezal, Elroy Greuel, Olaf Gustafson, Newell Hackey, Richard Jacobs, Layton Johnson, Dennis Kensok, William Livdahl, Francis Mikula, James Misialek, Donald Paulson, Duane Rubash, Kenneth Schaffer, Robert Sellheim, Charles Skov, and Wallace Utke.

At the conclusion of the program the ladies Auxiliary will be serving lunch downstairs. There will be a small charge.

The Memorial Day is observance is open to the public of all ages.
