MOORHEAD – Icy conditions contributed to a crash involving a pickup truck and a flatbed semi on eastbound Interstate 94 outside Moorhead on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 21, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene at 12:18 p.m. The crash happened at mile marker 8, just east of the bridge over the Buffalo River.

Patrol Sgt. Jesse Grabow said the pickup driver lost control on the icy bridge deck, hit a concrete sidewall and was then hit by the semi.

The loaded semi ended up mostly in the ditch, but the rear end of it remained in a driving lane of the interstate. The pickup was heavily damaged.

A passenger in the pickup, 18-year-old Craig Chamberlain of Dickinson, N.D., was taken to Essentia Health in Fargo to be treated for injuries described as not life-threatening.

The pickup driver, 47-year-old James Chamberlain of Belfield, N.D., and a second passenger, a 1-year-old boy from Barnesville, Minn., were not hurt. The semi driver, 35-year-old Richard Pask of Manitoba, also was uninjured.
