Montana man dies in crash on icy roads in western ND

MANDAREE, N.D. -- A 59-year-old Montana man has died in a head-on crash on icy roads in McKenzie County in western North Dakota on Wednesday night, Jan. 17.

Robert Barke of Dutton, Mont., was driving a 2017 Ford F250 pickup when he was struck head-on by a 2017 Ford F350 driven by Luis Saldana, 19, of Watford City, who lost control on icy Ben Den Road. Saldana was hurt, but his injuries were not life threatening.

Saldana also has charges pending, said the North Dakota State Patrol.

The crash, which occurred about 6:30 p.m., totaled both vehicles.

Saldana was traveling west on the road from Mandaree to Watford City when the crash occurred.
