Two crashes reported during first day of Minn. snowmobile race

OKLEE, Minn. — Two snowmobile crashes were reported Saturday, Jan. 27, during the first day of a two-day race through two northwestern Minnesota counties.

The Red Lake County Sheriff's Office reported two snowmobile crashes happened between 11 a.m. and noon Saturday within 1 mile of each other.

Authorities said one of the drivers was taken by ambulance to a hospital. It was unknown Saturday if the driver in the other accident was injured.

No other details, including the conditions of either driver, were reported Saturday.

According to a post on the United States X-Country Snowmobile Racing website, snowmobilers gathered this weekend for the Seven Clans 250 Race. Saturday's I-500 race kicked off at 10 a.m., with sleds running two 65-mile laps that wound through portions of Red Lake and Pennington counties.
