Sloan receives NDSU scholarship
Martha Sloan, daughter of Mark and Jocelyn Sloan, West Fargo, received the North Dakota State University Freshman Academic Scholarship in the amount of $4,500. The scholarship recognizes high academic achievement.
Sloan will enter NDSU in the fall and plans to major in architecture. In high school, she was active in National Honor Society.
Local students named to honor list
Three West Fargo students have been named to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Deans’ List/Honor Roll for the spring semester of the 2012-13 academic year. Students who qualified include: Ellie Marie Grooters, senior, speech-language pathology major, College of Education and Human Sciences with a 4.0 grade-point average; Ashley Marie Reiter, senior, biological sciences major, College of Arts and Sciences; and Elizabeth Marie Varberg, freshman, biological systems engineering major, College of Engineering.
Physical Therapy Class begins clinical studies at UND
Mark Mason Laraway and Samir Ghanem Maleki, both from West Fargo, are among 48 physical therapy students, members of the Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) Class of 2015, who started the clinical studies portion of their journey to become doctors of physical therapy at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The students received white coats at the Entrance Into Professional Service Ceremony held at the school on July 11.
After completing their first year of the professional component of the physical therapy curriculum, the students have to pass an intense, comprehensive examination of their knowledge before they begin their clinical studies. The first three years of the curriculum are considered to be pre-physical therapy (pre-professional). The professional component of the D.P.T. requires three academic years and two summer sessions following completion of the 90-credit pre-physical therapy entrance requirement.
Anderson graduates from VCSU
Brenda Anderson of Harwood was among Valley City State University students who completed Bachelor’s Degrees and were eligible to participate in the 2013 Commencement Ceremony. She earned a B.S. in Ed., in Elementary Education completing degree requirements Spring Semester 2013.
Neu receives Presidential Scholarship from UND
George Neu of West Fargo received the Presidential Scholarship from the University of North Dakota for the 2013-2014 academic year. Neu, son of George and Dawne Neu, graduated from West Fargo High School and plans to attend UND in the fall.

This scholarship program is intended to honor and reward students who contribute to enhancing UND as vibrant and connected learners. In order to qualify, students must have a 3.65 GPA or above and score a 29-36 composite ACT score.
