The Cass County Historical Society, which runs Bonanzaville, has decided to keep the church closed until all fundraising is done.

The South Pleasant Church was moved to Bonanzaville from Christine, N.D., last year after a fire destroyed Bonanzaville’s famed Lutheran church in 2014.

Although the church has been moved to Bonanzaville and is sitting on a new foundation, there is still much work to be done on the inside, said Executive Director Brenda Warren in a news release.

The project still needs a new front entrance to gain access to the church, including a handicapped accessible ramp. Other costly items include egress windows, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and the complete finishing of the basement space.

Bonanzaville hopes to raise about $65,0000 to pay for the necessary work. A GoFundMe account has been established to help raise the additional money.

Weddings and other gatherings can be booked in the church by the public once it is operational.

“We are looking forward to having this 1890 prairie church open to the public so young and old can experience the historical significance of its beautiful sanctuary,” Warren said.

Donations can be made through GoFundMe by visiting our website at www.gofundme.com/bonanzaville or by visiting the Bonanzaville Facebook page at www.facebook.com/bonanzaville. Checks can be mailed directly to CCHS-Bonanzaville at 1351 West Main St, West Fargo, ND 58078 or stop in at CCHS-Bonanzaville, USA.

The group is a 501(c) entity and donations are tax deductible as allowed by law. Additional information can be obtained by calling Bonanzaville at (701) 282-2822.
