Fargo police warn residents of phone scam
FARGO — The Fargo Police Department is alerting the public to a scam phone call that was received Wednesday, Nov. 22.
In a Facebook post, the department said it's investigating a resident's report that someone with a foreign accent called claiming to be "Officer Justin Thomas." The phone number on caller ID matched the department's number, the post stated.
Police said if any residents receive a similar call and believe police may actually need to contact them regarding a criminal investigation, residents should take the caller's name and call the department to see if that person does in fact work there.
Officers used the incident to remind residents to never provide personal information over the phone, such as date of birth, Social Security number or bank or credit card information.
