The West Fargo Wildcats football team comprised of fourth grade students from Westside, South and Eastwood Elementary Schools, is among 68 teams enrolled in the Fargo Athletics, Inc. youth football program for 2009. Besides West Fargo, Fargo, and Moorhead, teams from Kindred, Hawley, and Glyndon are also participating.

Fargo Athletics, Inc., was formed as a non-profit organization in 1972 to help promote youth football in the Fargo-Moorhead area. There are currently almost 1400 players involved in the programs representing grades four through eight. FM Athletics supplies the uniforms, and parents coach the kids.

Recent action took place August 22, at Moorhead Centennial Fields, where each team played three games, including the Wildcats - one of 14 teams made up of strictly fourth graders. Coaches for the Wildcats are Manix Zepeda and Jason Westphal.

The students are especially enjoying this season of play, since fourth grade is the first time that these young boys get to wear pads and helmets.
