Stewart highlights tonight's races

Last year, he showed up for one race, and enjoyed it so much that he came back for a second round a few weeks later.

Tonight, Tony Stewart returns to the Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo for one of two scheduled cameo appearances this season.

The two-time Sprint Cup NASCAR champion and fan favorite will be highlighting tonight's Late Model Series. Support class races will include Street Stocks and A-Modifieds, and races will kick off at 7:30 p.m.

According to the RRVS website, if tonight's races are canceled because of inclement weather - a probable chance given the forecasted rain - they will be rescheduled for Thursday; however, classes will switch to Late Models, Super Stocks and Street Stocks.

Stewart also is scheduled to race at RRVS on Aug. 3, in the All-Star Circuit of Champions. Support classes that night are B-Modifieds and Street Stocks.

During Stewart's first appearance last June at RRVS, he finished third in the Late Models feature. In his encore race less than a month later, Stewart had the top time in qualifying and won his heat race, but suffered a flat tire in the feature after clipping it on a corner marker. He was in second place at the time.

World of Outlaws champion Donny Schatz of Fargo topped the podium after taking the lead with six laps.

Tonight's races are $25 at the gate for adults, while kids' tickets are $12. For more information, visit, or call 701-356-5377.
