Tuesday marked start of volleyball postseason

The West Fargo volleyball team went out on a high note Thursday.

They finished their regular season with a straight-set victory on the road over Fargo South, winning 25-14, 25-17, 25-14.

But they had little time to revel in the win, as they already were set to begin their postseason Tuesday, the results of which were not in by the time The Pioneer went to press.

The Packers (10-8 EDC, 15-17 overall) finished the regular season as the No. 5 seed. They were scheduled to take on No. 4 Fargo Davies (12-6, 25-10) on Tuesday in the first round of the East Region meet.

The winner of the game will go on to the championship semifinals and, barring a major upset, likely will face undefeated Grand Forks Red River (18-0, 30-0) at 3 p.m. Friday at West Fargo High School. The Roughriders are this year's East Region regular-season champs.

The loser between the Eagles and Packers will go on to the consolation semifinals, likely facing Fargo South at 11 a.m. Friday.

While Davies did defeat West Fargo in the two teams' only meeting this, it was a close call. The Packers actually won the first two sets, only to see Davies rally back with three straight set victories to seal the win.

The Top 4 teams from the EDC tournament will advance to the state tournament, which runs Nov. 17-19 in Minot.
