Wrestling: Stars, Stripes represent N.D. at National Duals

Two North Dakota wrestling teams recently gave it their all at the AAU Middle School National Duals in Des Moines, Iowa. 

Nearly 50 kids from North Dakota participated in the two day event, which took place April 14-15. 

The Stars finished 15th out of 38 teams after going 5-3 overall and placing seventh in the Silver Pool. The Stripes finished 3-5 in the tournament, taking fourth place in the Copper Pool and placing 28th overall.

The trip was organized by West Fargo varsity wrestling coach Kayle Dangerud and Dean Shearer, of the West Fargo wrestling program.

West Fargo participants included: Dawson Anderson, 80 pounds, 1-7 record; Jared Franek, 85 pounds, 7-1; Dakota Galt, 90 pounds, 3-5; Jacob Franek, 100 pounds, 2-6; Jesse Shearer, 120 pounds, 5-3; Charley Weber, 171 pounds, 6-2; and Brandon Metz, 189 pounds, 5-3.

Round Three: Stars 69, S.D. Blue 18.

Round Four: Stars 46, Ohio Vengeance 42.

Consolation semifinals: Iowa Hawks 58, Stars 29.
