South Dakota schools to meet in Summit tourney semifinal showdown

SIOUX FALLS  -- It’ll be the battle of the South Dakota universities on Monday night to see who makes it into the Summit League Basketball Tournament finals and have a chance to make the NCAA tourney.

Both South Dakota schools won over the weekend to advance to Monday night’s 6 p.m. game at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls.

The winner will take on either Omaha or IUPUI who won their quarterfinal games over the weekend. IUPUI surprised NDSU to advance.

SDSU and the University of South Dakota play at 6 p.m. Monday.  The game is on Midco cable stations and ESPN3.

The two teams split their games this winter with SDSU winning 73-73 on Dec. 31, and then USD winning 91-89 on Feb. 11.

Omaha and IUPUI play the other semifinal at 8:30 p.m. Monday.

The championship is Tuesday night with a berth to the NCAA tourney on the line.

Mike Daum scored 33 points and No. 4 seed South Dakota State rolled to an 83-73 win over fifth-seeded Denver in the quarterfinal Sunday night.

Reed Tellinghuisen added 18 points for SDSU (16-16).
