Boys hockey shut out in Grand Forks

On Saturday, Nov. 30, the Packers picked up their first win of the season against Fargo North.

However, they were unable to carry that momentum into the next week, being unable to score and falling to Grand Forks Red River -- last season’s second-best team in the east-- on Friday night by a score of 4-0.

The Pack held the Roughriders to just one goal in the first period, but Grand Forks exploded in the second with three goals, two of them within 20 seconds of each other.

Senior goalie Bailey Vareberg stopped 24 shots on goal, including 10 in the second period. His 92.0 save percentage is the fifth-best in the state right now.

The 1-3-0 Packers (1-1-0 in the east) host Fargo South-Shanley on Friday at 7:30 p,m., then host Fargo Davies on Tuesday, also at 7:30 p.m.
