The West Fargo boys basketball team came into the new season with a new roster, but plenty of momentum.

They started the season on Thursday with a 96-91 overtime victory over defending state champions Fargo Shanley, then followed it up with a 56-50 win over the Devils Lake Firebirds on Saturday.

The Pack led by two at halftime on Thursday, but coninued to swap leads with the Deacons until the overtime period, where West Fargo outscored Shanley 13-8.

Leading the Packers on Thursday was senior forward Travis Schock, -- last season’s only returning starter -- who had 27 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals in 36 minutes of play.

Junior guard Ben Holland scored 16 points and pulled down a staggering 17 rebounds, leading all players.

Junior Brady Heisler and senior Jordan Beck scored 17 and 14 points, respectively.

Schock’s success carried into Saturday’s game, as he had 21 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Heisler scored 11 points of his own, and also pulled in eight rebounds.

The Packers out-rebounded their opponents by a combined 20 boards.
