At the biggest wrestling event in the area, the Packers did not disappoint.

The team finished second out of 69 teams at the Rumble on the Red this weekend, with just fourth-ranked Apple Valley finishing ahead of them. They ended the weekend with 187.5 points.

Earlier in the week, they entered InterMat Wrestling’s Top 50, and are now ranked 42nd in the nation. They are currently ranked seven places higher than archrival Bismarck High School.

Leading the Packers were juniors Jordan Shearer and Weston Dobler, both of whom finished second in their respective weight class.

The 132-pound Shearer fell to Apple Valley’s Maolu Woiwor 9-3 in the championship match, and Dobler lost to Scott West’s Andrew Fogarty 6-2 in the 160-pound championship match.

106-pound eighth-grader Jared Franek topped Apple Valley’s Kyle Rathman 6-5 to take third place in his weight class.

Rounding out the Packers’ top-five finishes was senior Kollin Kragnes, who won 3-1 over Moorhead’s Samuel Grove to take fifth place in the 170-pound class.

West Fargo -- who is 6-0 in dual play this season -- is the last undefeated team in the Eastern Dakota Conference, and one of just two teams that have not lost a conference matchup, along with Wahpeton.

The Packers return to Rochester on Friday to take part in the Minnesota Clash Dual Tournament this weekend, along with 32 teams from all over the nation.
