Boys’ hockey loses one game, wins one

The Packer boys hockey team suffered its fifth East Region regulation loss of the season on Saturday, falling to the Bruins of Fargo South-Shanley 7-1 at Scheels Arena.

However, they managed to bounce back on Monday evening with a 3-2 victory over Devils Lake.

The only West Fargo goal against the Bruins came from junior forward Riley Vareberg 13 minutes into the second period. Senior forwards Tyler Berginski and Jake Wasem each earned an earned assist on the goal.

Senior goalie Bailey Vareberg stopped 16 shots on goal in two periods of play. Junior Darek Turner entered the game in the third, tallying 12 saves.

Monday’s goals came from three different players: Sophomore Stone Sandoval and seniors Tyler Berginski and C.J. Lenzmeier.

Junior defenseman Jake Hoy added two assists in the game.

Vareberg managed to stop 29 of the 31 shots he faced.

The Packers will host the Jamestown Bluejays tomorrow evening at Veterans Memorial Arena. They then travel to Fargo North on Tuesday evening to face the Spartans. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m.
