It only took two meets for the Packer golf team to pick up their first conference win of the season.

The team walked off the Grand Forks Country Club on Thursday with a first-place, 319-point performance.

West Fargo’s top performance came from freshman Cole Johnson, whose 76 was the top score of any golfer on the day.

Senior Riley Johnson finished with a score of 78, good enough for third place. He is currently the top-ranked golfer in the conference with an average of 75.

Senior Nathan Kapaun ended the day with a score of 81, earning fifth place as an individual.

Junior Drew Conzemius and sophomore Christian Oien each shot an 84 on the day.

They then traveled to Fergus Falls on Friday and Saturday for a two-day nonconference meet, where they finished in eighth place with a score of 673.

They were one of just two North Dakota teams — the other being Grand Forks Red River — in the 15-team tournament.

Cole Johnson shot an 85 on the first day and a 79 on the second to lead the team again. He was one of three West Fargo golfers to participate on both days, the other two being junior Darek Turner (combined score of 184) and freshman Matt Albright (170).

The Packers — who are currently ranked first in the early stages of the season — are at the Carrington Cross Roads Golf Course today for an EDC meet. They then go to Edgewood Golf Course in Fargo for a nonconference meet Friday. Tee-off is at noon.
