The Packers tennis team wrapped up the Eastern Dakota Conference tournament with a second-place team finish.

They beat the Fargo South Bruins and the Valley City Hi-Liners-- both by a 4-1 score -- before falling to the Grand Forks Red River Roughriders 5-0 in the EDC championship match.

Along earning second place as a team, Packers junior Sammie Smith has earned a berth in the individual state singles tournament. She is the No. 3 seed from the east, and will face Williston’s Keyenna Enget in the first round.

Additionally, two doubles teams -- the team of Katie Baasch and Kaylee Stock and the team of Mariah Stein and Jamie Freden -- have earned berths in the state doubles tournament. Baasch and Stock are the east No. 5 seed, while Stein and Freden are the No. 7 seed.

The state tennis tournament begins tomorrow in Grand Forks.
