Robert M. Limanen, 62, New York Mills, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, in St. Marys Nursing Center, Detroit Lakes, Minn., under the care of hospice. Services will be held at a later date. Mr. Limanen was born Nov. 8, 1942, in New York Mills. On July 6, 1963, he married Sally Sterling in Faribualt, Minn. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 until his honorable discharge in 1970.
Everette LeRoy Baker, 84, Twin Valley, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, in Twin Valley Living Center. Mr. Baker was born Sept. 30, 1920, in Patch Grove, Wis., where he grew up. In 1930, the family moved to Ada, Minn., where he attended school and worked with area farmers. He worked for Odegaard Service Station and Brantel, both Ada. He sold fresh produce, meats and cheese to area homes. He raised cattle and hogs near Gary, Minn. He retired in 1992 and entered Wimmer Homes, Ada.
Wallace G. Martinson, 75, Audubon, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, in his home. Mr. Martinson was born Jan. 18, 1930, near Audubon, where he grew up and attended school. He farmed near Audubon. He is survived by two sisters, Myrtle, Audubon, Vergil Peterson, Detroit Lakes, Minn. Visitation: Saturday from 10 to 11 in St. Peters Lutheran Church, Audubon. Funeral: Saturday at 11 in the church. Randall Lee Steffens, 49, Breckenridge, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, in St. Francis Medical Center, Breckenridge. Mr. Steffens, known as Bud, was born Aug. 10, 1955, in Breckenridge. He grew up in Fairmount, N.D., where he graduated from high school in 1973. He served in the U.S. Army. He worked for Sturdevant Auto and other businesses in Wapheton, N.D., and Breckenridge. On Sept. 19, 1987, he married Judy Fuka in Lidgerwood, N.D.
Karlee C. Kvien, 5-year-old daughter of Matthew and Jodi Kvien, Twin Valley, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo. Karlee Cheyenne Kvien was born April 6, 1999, in Valley City, N.D. She moved to Luverne, N.D.
Lawrence Belmont, 88, Henning, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, in Golden Valley Boarding Home, Surprise, Ariz. Mr. Belmont was born March 30, 1916, in Henning, where he graduated from high school in 1934. He graduated in 1941 from the University of Minnesota School of Embalming, Minneapolis. He served in the U.S. Navy until 1945 when he returned to Henning. In 1947, he married Marilyn Miller. He owned and operated Belmont Furniture Store from 1946 to 1968. He owned and operated Belmont Funeral Home. In 1949, he began operating the Henning ambulance service. He retired in 1980.
New candy upsets animal rights activists TRENTON, N.J. - Animal rights activists are disgusted by a new candy from Kraft Foods Inc. that's shaped like critters run over by cars - complete with tire treads. The fruity-flavored Trolli Road Kill Gummi Candy - in shapes of partly flattened snakes, chickens and squirrels - fosters cruelty toward animals, according to the New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. "It sends the wrong message to children, that it's OK to harm animals.
Thomas R. Bornsen, 57, Fort Pierce, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, in Port Saint Lucie (Fla.) Medical Center. Mr. Bornsen was born Dec. 16, 1947, in Northwood (N.D.) Hospital, Northwood. He graduated in 1965 from Larimore (N.D.) High School. He graduated from North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton, and the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. He worked nine years in the iron field.
Virginia M. Dohm, 76, Moorhead, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo. Virginia Marcella Gossonwas born April 13, 1928, in Benson, Minn., where she attended school. She married John Dohm, in Minneapolis. She worked 33 years in the business office of the food service department of Minnesota State University Moorhead. She is survived by her husband; two sons, John III (Marie), Moorhead, David (Michelle), Thurmont, Md.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
