Elnor R. Blanding, 86, Minneapolis, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, in Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis. Elnor Ruth Nelson was born July 4, 1918, in Westby, Wis., where she grew up and attended school. She attended school in Alma, Mich., from 1931 to 1933. She moved to Detroit Lakes, where she graduated from high school in 1937. On July 6, 1941, she married Henry Blanding in Detroit Lakes, where they lived. She worked for Blandings Department Store, Detroit Lakes. She lived in Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, for 1½ years.
Alma G. Howes, 90, Edmore, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, in Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake, N.D. Alma G. Fossum was born Feb. 28, 1914, in Lawton, N.D., where she grew up and graduated from high school. On June 29, 1939, she married Russell Howes in Devils Lake. They farmed near Edmore. In 1956, they moved into Edmore. Her husband died in 1985.
John J. Ivesdal, 96, Edmore, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, in First Care Health Center, Park River, N.D. Mr. Ivesdal was born Sept. 16, 1908, in Edmore, where he graduated from high school. He attended the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. On Nov. 14, 1936, he married Orrel Overbo in Hampden, N.D. They operated a cream station and ice cream parlor for several years. He worked as North Dakota dairy inspector for more than 20 years and North Dakota assistant dairy commissioner. He also did income tax preparation for area residents. She died in 1994.
Chester Francis Eiken, 94, Moorhead, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, in his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Mr. Eiken was born Dec. 16, 1910, in Portland, N.D., where he grew up and graduated from high school. On Jan. 5, 1942, he married Valerie Puhalla in Moorhead. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 until his discharge in 1946. In 1947, they moved to Fargo, and in 1951, they moved to Moorhead. He worked for Berg Fargo Motor. He worked for Northwestern Equipment, Fargo, for 24 years.
Norman M. Eide, 87, Omaha, Neb., formerly Moorhead, died Sunday in an Omaha hospital. The funeral will be Friday at 10 in Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead. (Korsmo, Moorhead) Miyo Nordenstrom, 75, Fargo, died Monday in Innovis Hospital, Fargo. (Boulger, Fargo) Clarence Davis, 98, Moorhead, died Monday in Fargo under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. (Wright, Moorhead) Ernest Holst, 93, Selz, N.D., died Monday in St. Aloisius Medical Center, Harvey, N.D. (Hertz, Harvey) James Lewis Blackwell, 77, Dilworth, died Monday in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Helen I. Bjornson, 65, Hawley, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, in Barnesville, Minn., under hospice care. Helen Irene Krebs was born Dec. 11, 1939, in Barnesville, where she graduated in 1957 from high school. On Sept. 14, 1957, she married Kermit Bjornson near Sabin, Minn. They farmed near Hawley. He died in 1973. In 1981, she moved near Cormorant, Minn. She moved to Hawley in 2004.
Sister Helen Couture, 85, Valley City, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, in Maryvale Convent, Valley City. Helen Couture was born Oct. 31, 1919, in St. John, N.D. On Feb. 14, 1939, she professed her vows as a Sister of Mary of the Presentation in France. In 1960, she graduated from College of Great Falls (Mont.) with a bachelors degree. She taught in Harvey, Olga, Willow City, Walhalla, Lisbon, Valley City and Oakwood, all North Dakota. She worked as a missionary in Africa for three years. She earned LPN certification and worked in Spring Valley, Ill., and St.
Elmer Hagen, 89, Underwood, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, in Broen Memorial Home, Fergus Falls, Minn. Mr. Hagen was born Dec. 31, 1915, near Underwood, where he attended school. He attended Fergus Falls (Minn.) High School. He farmed near Underwood. On Oct. 1, 1940, he married Mabel Skogen. She died in 1974. He retired in 1981.
Malvine M. Shimer, 93, Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, in St. Marys Nursing Center, Detroit Lakes. Malvine M. Mikkelson was born Feb. 21, 1912, in Aberdeen, S.D. She grew up and attended school in Rockford, Ill., and Oakes, N.D. She worked for a grocery store in Rockford. On Nov. 24, 1932, she married James Rehovsky in Rockford. They farmed near Oakes. After retiring, they moved into Oakes. Her husband died in 1975. She moved to Detroit Lakes. In 1984, she married Roy Shimer.
