We would like to thank everyone who shared their time and contributions to support Brian Bommersbach and family at his benefit held on July 24. Community members from West Fargo, Fargo Moorhead area, Carrington, Glyndon, Grand Forks , Valley City, and Hunter all came together in this time of need. Brian continues his battle with Acute Leukemia and his stem cell transplant is scheduled on August 13 in Denver, Colo. The donated funds will help defray the family's medical and travel expenses.
With North Dakota's 63rd Legislative Session in the rear view mirror, legislators are now focusing on the execution of the legislation that was passed during the session and preparing themselves for the 64th Session. Key among the activities to accomplish both of these tasks is the work of the interim committees.
The NDSU Distance and Continuing Education Office hired Julie Portillo as the new marketing specialist this July. Portillo was formerly the sales and marketing coordinator at Bonanzaville for one year after graduating from the University of Minnesota Crookston with a dual degree in Marketing and Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management. "The Distance and Continuing Education Office at NDSU has several new, upcoming projects I am excited to become a part of and to share with the Fargo Moorhead community," explained Portillo on her new position.
Dr. Dan Levin, owner of Eyesite Family Eyecare, located in Costco at 750 23rd Ave E., West Fargo, has announced the addition of Anna Miller, OD. Dr. Miller obtained her undergraduate degree from Bemidji State University, and graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry. She has a special interest in pediatric and family eye care, contact lenses and ocular disease. Miller will also be establishing a dry eye clinic. Sue Olson has joined First International Bank & Trust as a Loan Assistant at their West Fargo branch, located at 1350 13th Ave. E. A native of Bottineau, Olson moved to West Fargo 21 years ago. She enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, going to the lake and scrapbooking. Olson has spent many years as an active team parent of the Packers hockey team and is also a foster home for the MN Sheltie Rescue. She has three sheltie dogs that she is taking care of in her home.
Mike Tomasko of West Fargo is one of just 24 AARP volunteers nationwide chosen to participate in AARP's premiere Volunteer Leadership Institute, an intensive 13-month program designed to elevate highly skilled and motivated AARP volunteers to the next level of volunteer leadership. The mission of the initial AARP Volunteer Leadership Institute is to develop and mobilize the expertise, interests and talents of highly skilled volunteer leaders to lead and influence in communities across the nation.
The Veterans Memorial Celebration will be held at Bonanzaville on May 30 from 3 to 7 p.m. to celebrate the region's veterans, military, and their families. All activities are free and open to the entire community.
West Fargo High School students were among top place winners in each of the 14 categories at the 61st annual NDHSAA Sponsored State Class A Speech Tournament held at Jamestown High School on April 20. All participants qualified from one of two regional tournaments or qualified at an invitational tournament held during the season.
City of West Fargo staff and contractors have started their annual spring street sweeping which should be completed by May 24. Crews will begin on the higher volume roadways and progress into the residential areas. Residents are asked to help assist and expedite this task by parking vehicles off the street during normal business hours.
