It's that time again. Dust off those cases, get those embouchures ready and head on over to West Fargo High School for the Summer Band 2013 season. Rehearsals will be held on Wednesday evenings in June from 7 to 8 p.m. Anyone grade 9 and above is welcome to attend. If an instrument is needed contact Sue Jordahl at WFHS at 356-2050 in advance, and it will be waiting when you arrive. The first rehearsal will be Wednesday, June 5, with the plan to play a concert or two June 26 and also be a part of West Fargo's West Fest Celebration in September.
North Dakota residents are encouraged to cast their vote for the state's Outstanding Senior Volunteer. The recognition is part of the Salute to Senior Service program, sponsored by Home Instead, Inc., the franchisor of the Home Instead Senior Care network. The program honors the contributions of adults 65 and older who give at least 15 hours a month of volunteer service to their favorite causes.
The District 22 Republicans held their annual dinner last week at the Fargo Holiday with the event featuring keynote speaker Lt. Governor Drew Wrigley and a special recognition of past district chairpersons, Cleo and Ralph Thompson. Also attending was the District 22 legislative team of Senator Gary Lee and Representatives Wes Belter and Pete Silbernagel.
The American Legion held its 1st District Meeting in Harwood on April 15 with District Commander Greg Kraiter from Harwood chairing the meeting that heard reports about Boys State, the Oratorical Contest, Baseball and other promoted programs. Bill Marcks of Buffalo received a confirmation vote to move up to District Commander for the 2013-2014 year. State Commander Dave Rice from Harwood provided a legislative update and encouraged membership recruitment and retention within the district.
Benjamin Huber, a senior at West Fargo High School, has been named the West Fargo Exchange Club Student of the Month for April. He the son of Jason and Maira Huber, West Fargo.
Gov. Jack Dalrymple and North Dakota Department of Commerce Tourism Division Director Sara Otte Coleman announced this year's recipients of the Governor's Travel and Tourism Awards in a ceremony in Grand Forks on April 17.
The Red River Valley Fair Association held their Annual Meeting on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 with agenda items including the discussion of the 2013 Red River Valley Fair, 2013 Big Iron Farm Show, plus voting in newly elected board members and officers.
Superintendent David Flowers announced Wednesday that Adam Gehlhar has been named as an Assistant Principal for Cheney Middle School and Michelle Weber has been named as the Assistant Principal for Liberty Middle School.
West Fargo Public Schools has announced that the district’s second Annual New Neighbor Night Celebration is coming up tomorrow night. New Neighbor Night was established last year as a way to recognize and honor the diversity within WFPS, as well as the district’s ever-increasing New American population. With over 600 people in attendance last year, it was a wonderful example of the growing community.
Derek and Nina Wentz, West Fargo, are the parents of a son, Elias Jay, born on March 31, 2013, at 2:48 a.m. at Sanford Health. He weighed 8 pounds 5 ounces and was 20 inches long. Jon and Kimberly Reinpold, Harwood, are the parents of a daughter, Arianna Grace, born on April 2, 2013, at 1:11 a.m. at Sanford Health. She weighed 7 pounds 4 ounces and was 20 inches long.
