Scott and Stacie Platfers, Fargo, are the parents of a daughter, Jemma Kay, June 21, 2013 at 12:38 p.m. at Essentia Health. She weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces and was 19 inches long. Jemma joins a sister and brother, Shelby and Ryker. Grandparents are Deb Godfredsen, Armstrong, Iowa, and Shirley Platfers, West Fargo. Great-grandparents are Buddy and Margaret Anderson, Armstrong, Iowa. Jade and Heidi Brown, Horace, are the parents of a son, Liam, born June 22, 2013 at 10:36 a.m.at Sanford Health, Fargo. He weighed 9 pounds 8 ounces and measured 21 inches.\
A benefit spaghetti dinner and silent auction for Mike Steidl, of West Fargo, will take place on Wednesday, July 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church Crossway Center, 1420 16th St. E. Steidl was diagnosed in May of 2011 with acute myeloid leukemia and has been in out and of the hospital ever since. A longtime West Fargo resident, Steidl has been a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church since 1989 and a member of the Knights of Columbus for 23 years. He work3ed for the railroad for 42 1;/2 years before retiring.

Soroptimist International of Fargo will be holding their annual Garden Tour on Wednesday, July 17, and Thursday, July 18, from 1:30 to 7:30 p.m. each day. Seven West Fargo gardens will be toured on Wednesday and seven North Moorhead gardens on Thursday. Admission is $10 one day/$15 both days. Tickets are available at all Hornbacher's Stores, Baker Garden & Gift, Shotwell Floral & Greenhouse, Holland's Landscaping & Garden Center, and Levi Runions Garden Center. Tickets will also be available at every house on the tour.
In honor of Independence Day, and as a part of the 4th of July Celebration at Bonanzaville, the museum will open an exhibit of firearms in the rotating gallery, entitled "Up in Arms: The Role of Guns in America," showcasing the extensive collection preserved at the Cass County Historical Society.
Three West Fargo students have been named to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Deans' List/Honor Roll for the spring semester of the 2012-13 academic year. Students who qualified include: Ellie Marie Grooters, senior, speech-language pathology major, College of Education and Human Sciences with a 4.0 grade-point average; Ashley Marie Reiter, senior, biological sciences major, College of Arts and Sciences; and Elizabeth Marie Varberg, freshman, biological systems engineering major, College of Engineering.
Moore Engineering, Inc., a civil engineering and land surveying company with locations in West Fargo, Minot, Fergus Falls, and Wadena recently hired two employees in their West Fargo office. Greg Maynard was hired as a Building Inspector and Thomas Sayward as a GIS Programmer. Maynard was previously employed by Golden Living as the Maintenance Director. He is a native of Battle Lake and currently resides there with his wife, Gail.

High Point Networks, LLC has hired Adam Martin to their sales team as an Account Manager. He received his education from Crown College and was previously employed by Network Center, Inc. of Fargo. High Point Networks is a value added reseller in the IT industry focused on voice, data center and network solutions with offices in West Fargo, Bismarck, Sioux Falls , Alexandria, Minneapolis and Billings.
West Fargo junior Amanda Levin was named Gatorade Player of the year for North Dakota track. She is West Fargo's first girls track and field athlete to earn the award. The award comes after Levin's dominant performance at the North Dakota State Track and Field Tournament, in which she took first in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes, becoming the first Packer to claim the title in any of those three events. Off the track, Levin is active in her church as volunteer Sunday school teacher and has maintained a 3.49 GPA in the classroom.
