Mustangs first, Packers second at EDC swim meet

It was a dominant day for West Fargo schools at the Eastern Dakota Conference girls swim tournament Saturday, with the Sheyenne Mustangs well out in front of the field.

Tierney Howell won the 100-yard butterfly and Sheyenne took the runner-up spot in five events, riding great balance to a winning score of 434. This tally was 104 points better than West Fargo, which took second.

Howell grabbed first in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.10.

She was also part of two second-place relays. She joined Breanna Lund, Abby Triplett, and Madi Yonke for a time of 1:56.39 in the 200 medley, then joined Greta Bellas, Yonke and Bree Triplett to swim a 3:45.69 in the 400 free.

Individually, Bellas was second in the 200 (2:00.25) and 500 free (5:29.30), while Yonke was the runner-up in the 50 free (25.65).

Leading the charge for the Packers was Hannah Potter, who claimed wins in the 100 breaststroke and 200 medley relay.

Potter won the breaststroke by nearly four seconds, swimming a 1:09.74. She also teamed with Liv Hettinger, Tatum Brooks and Kaytlyn Salter to win the medley in 1:52.64.

Brooks also grabbed second-place finishes in the 100 butterfly (1:03.40) and 100 breast (1:13.42) while Hettinger was second in the 100 back (1:01.59).
