Evolution1 breaks ground on West Fargo facility
Evolution1 broke ground on its new West Fargo facility on Monday.
The 40,000-square-foot, two-story building will leave room for an 11,000-square-foot expansion on the east and 16,000 square feet on the west, which would bring the total footprint to approximately 67,000 square feet with room for up to 500 employees.
Evolution1 — a WEX company — is a provider of cloud-based,consumer-directed health care and defined-contribution payments and technology solutions.
The company started as Lighthouse1 in a garage in Edina, Minn., in 2004. The software "hit primetime" a year later. In 2007, it was acquired by what is now Bell State Bank, bringing it into the Fargo market and swelling its employee ranks.
Evolution1 grew from two employees working out of the State Bank & Trust Building in
2008 to more than 150 employees across two separate buildings today.
Current staffing projections show that in 2018, Evolution1 will have grown to 280 to 300 Fargo-
based team members. The new facility will offer improved amenities, including additional conference space, plentiful parking, a training facility, a workout room, and access to walking paths, ponds, and parks.
In 2011, Lighthouse1 was purchased by Evolution Benefits, backed by Genstar Capital. That created Evolution1, which now has 340 employees in four cities — Minneapolis, St. Louis, Hartford, Conn., and Fargo. In 2014, WEX Inc., a provider of corporate card payment solutions, acquired Evolution1 in a $532 million all-cash deal.
Evolution1 includes more than 500 partners and serves more than 125,000 employers and more than 12 million consumers across the United States and Canada.
Construction will be led by Olaf Anderson and JLG Architects.
The West Fargo City Commission agreed to give Evolution1 a tax incentive plan through its PILOT program that will save the company an estimated $625,300 over 10-years.
