About six months after a West Fargo restaurant closed down, the building is back in business with a new eatery-the only one of its kind in North Dakota.
Boston's Pizza opened Monday, Aug. 28, in the former site of Applebee's, 1640 13th Ave. E., which operated there from September 2012 until February 2017. The building formerly housed a Ruby Tuesday before that.
It's not the first time this Canadian franchise has come to North Dakota. A Boston's Pizza opened in 2005 in Grand Forks, but that restaurant closed in 2008.
The chain announced in March that operating partner Tyler Birkland, who also owns a Boston's in Prince Albert, Canada, would open a restaurant in West Fargo sometime in 2017. Birkland's franchise partners, Gregg Most and Jim Werschler, operate 14 restaurants in Saskatchewan.
At the time, a news release said this group is also looking at future development in Bismarck, Minot and Fargo.
Boston's Pizza has more than 400 restaurants in Canada, but it's a relatively unknown concept in the U.S. The eatery that combines family friendly casual dining with a sports bar offers more than 80 menu items, including pizza, pastas, burgers and salads.
