FARGO-A new hotel is now being built near the new Sanford Medical Center in south Fargo.
Sanford Health announced Wednesday, Dec. 20, that construction has already started on a Courtyard by Marriott, which will be located at Veterans Boulevard and Interstate 94 just west of Sanford Medical Center, 5225 23rd Ave. S., which opened in July.
The nearly $15 million hotel is projected to open in September 2018 with four stories, more than 66,000 square feet of space and 110 rooms. It will also feature meeting and outdoor gathering spaces, a business center and fitness center, an indoor pool and a Courtyard Bistro eatery that will serve meals, to-go snacks, cocktails and Starbucks drinks.
A news release didn't give an address for the hotel, but a building permit that was pulled in late October for the project lists the location at 2249 55th St. S.
According to the announcement, Sanford Health is a partner in the project by contributing the land, while Fargo's Brandt Hospitality Group will be the operating partner.
Brandt Hospitality Group already manages the Holiday Inn, Radisson and two Holiday Inn Express hotels in Fargo.
The project was previously tied to Fargo's TMI Hospitality, which sought a permit earlier this year to build the hotel at that site and indicated in a statement to The Forum in April that it was "excited at the prospect" of the project. The hotel development and management company announced June 22 that it was acquired by Texas-based Aimbridge Hospitality.
In a written statement, Sanford Fargo Executive Vice President Nate White said retail and service development has been "incredible" near the new hospital.
"We are grateful to the many hotels that have been built near the new hospital that serve our patients and their families," he wrote. "We are excited for there to be another convenient option."
