WEST FARGO — A Buffalo Wings & Rings restaurant will open here in late April or early May, a franchise owner said Thursday, Jan. 17.

The foundation and parking lot work is already complete, and the restaurant’s shell is going up at 695 32nd Ave. E., next to Cash Wise Foods and perhaps a half mile west of the Scheels Arena.

The West Fargo restaurant will be owned by Al and Mary Hauck, who operate the BWR restaurants in Bismarck and Minot.

In addition to its signature wings, the national chain — which also has outlets in Mankato, Minn., and Aberdeen and Rapid City, S.D. — sells a variety of appetizers, including onion rings, as well as burgers, quesadillas, salads, soups, wraps and sandwiches.

The Haucks chose West Fargo for their latest restaurant because it is one of the fastest-growing cities in the state and needed a family-oriented restaurant.

"(The Fargo market) has been on our radar for a while," Al Hauck said Thursday, Jan. 17. "We saw it as a need, and we saw it as a market opportunity. According to the numbers we generated, we feel it will be a great location.”

Hauck said delays in getting steel pushed the completion date for the restaurant back, but the building should be enclosed by the end of next week.

Hauck said he and his wife were attracted to the BWR franchise because it is family-oriented, with fresh food, a nice bar, good service and it is built around sports.

“Families want a place to go,” Hauck said.

BWR’s Chief Development Officer Philip Schram said Thursday that the firm has grown to 85 locations since it got its start in 1984. Sixty of those restaurants are in the United States and 25 in the Middle East.

Schram said the opening of the Minot store 10 years ago “was a huge success,” followed by the Bismarck outlet two years ago.

“Fargo seems to be the next logical step,” Schram said.

Hauck and his team are hiring. They are looking for at least two managers and three to four team leaders, positions they hope to fill in the next 45 days. The restaurant will start hiring general staff about 30 days before opening.
