Make Room moves to the West Acres Shopping Center
FARGO — Make Room, an art studio and gallery that got its start downtown in 2015, has moved to the West Acres Shopping Center.
Owner Chelsea Thorson said she's surprised at the attention the move has received from the public.
"For some reason, people are really interested in a business moving from downtown to the mall," Thorson said. "Maybe people think that it should be the opposite way, that we should be moving downtown."
A spot in West Acres will help Make Room gain exposure for its drop-in and regularly scheduled art classes, Thorson said. The location also offers more space for retail and artist exhibitions.
Alissa Adams, West Acres' senior vice president of marketing and business, said it's a perfect addition to the mall.
"When Chelsea, owner of Make Room, came to us earlier this year with the idea of opening up a location at West Acres we were instantly excited about the concept. With our common beliefs of making art accessible to the public and the importance of detail in a customer's experience, we knew immediately that Make Room would be a perfect addition to the West Acres family. From their summer art camps and drop and shop program for kids to their array of classes for adults, they offer something for everyone," Adams said.
Make Room hosts two to three different art classes and events daily for artists 18 months and older. It also offers drop-in events for families where they can come in and create something together.
Thorson wants customers to know Make Room is not leaving downtown entirely. It will continue to host classes at other downtown establishments.
"Even though we won't have a permanent space downtown, we're not leaving downtown. ... We've been talking with Wild Terra and some fun bars and other places about hosting events. So, we'll still have a presence downtown. We just won't have our full-time retail space there. That will be at West Acres," she said.
