MOORHEAD - A water tower in Moorhead is a contender in a national contest.
The Woodlawn water tower in Moorhead's Woodlawn Park was painted this summer and was recently nominated for Tnemec's Tank of the Year award. Vote for the Moorhead water tower at tankoftheyear.tnemec.com.
Voting closes Friday, Oct. 19. The winner will be revealed Friday, Oct. 26. As of Monday, Oct. 8, the Moorhead water tower was in fifth place.
Once voting closes, the top tank and 11 runners-up will be judged by an internal panel of water tank enthusiasts. The winner and 11 runners-up will then be featured in Tnemec's annual water tank calendar. The tank with the most votes during the polling period will be awarded as honorary People's Choice. Water tower fans are posting their choices on Twitter with the hashtag #tankoftheyear.
Moorhead began the process last year of repainting its water towers and has collected artistic submissions from residents for the designs. Grant funding has paid for part of the painting, while the city pays for the rest. The Oakport water tower was repainted last year.
