West Fargo — The West Fargo Fire Department is filled with toys and food for children in need, all part of the Golden Drive's Annual Christmas Gift Event.

Children who are signed up will get to pick out a toy, a present for mom and dad and then leave with a new coat and basket of food.

Golden Drive Board Member Tammi Seeba said there are several families signed up for the event.

She said the gift giveaway not only means a lot to the children, but also for the parents, knowing their children won't go empty-handed during the holidays.

"Growing up myself, it's like we used to get free gifts when were kids, and I remember my mom and dad just sitting there crying," Seeba said. "They were so thankful that there was someone around that could do it...which is what we do, why we're here."

There are hundreds of volunteers and organizations across the Fargo-metro that have helped donate food, clothes, toys and hygiene products for the event.

Seeba said seeing the children's reactions last year is what made this event her favorite.

"They came walking in, they saw the whole table full of toys, and their eyes were just huge," Seeba said. "They were so courteous, too. They didn't grab. They didn't — they just stood there and stared at them."

The event is also open the public. Children can come with a non-perishable food item to earn a photo with Santa and get tours of the fire trucks.

The event will take place at the West Fargo Fire Dept. on Friday, Dec. 13 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The program is still looking for donations, which can be dropped off at the West Fargo Fire Dept.
