Arthur W. Jones VFW Post 7564 will host Vietnam Veterans Day Appreciation on Sunday, March 29 at the VFW Club located 314 Sheyenne Street, West Fargo.
A social starts at 12:30 p.m. with a program starting at 1 p.m. The guest speaker for the program is David Rice, current State Commander of the North Dakota Veterans of Foreign Wars. Vietnam Veterans and their families are invited to attend.
The event at the VFW Post will include free chili and refreshments from 1:30- 4 p.m with door prizes and drawings.
Rice is a retired Navy veteran of 42 years of active duty and Naval Reserve. He served on the USS Oklahoma City, a light cruiser. He was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Citation, Vietnam Service and Campaign Medals and several others.
Rice remains involved with Military Veterans Organizations. He is currently State Commander of the North Dakota Veterans of Foreign Wars, Past State Commander of the North Dakota American Legion, Past State Commander of the 40 and current Eastern Region vice president of the North Dakota Chapter of Navy League. He also is on the Board of Veterans Administration Fargo Executive Leadership Council, VFW VAVS representative, on the North Dakota Administrative Council of Veterans Affairs, and served on the Board of Directors of the Veterans Honor Flight since 2006, making 13 trips to Washington, DC and escorting over 1,500 WWII and Korean War Veterans to see their memorials.
