WEST FARGO — Due to national and state guidance aimed at minimizing the spread of the coronavirus, West Fargo's June Cruise Night, which had been scheduled for Thursday, June 18, has been canceled, according to a news release issued by city officials.
Typical Cruise Nights see thousands of attendees across a seven-block stretch of Sheyenne Street, where crowds often become large.
Because Cruise Night is intended to be a free public event, limiting attendance and proximity between attendees is not possible, city officials said.
They added that event organizers will continue to monitor recommendations before deciding on what may happen with other Cruise Nights this summer.
City officials said Cruise Night organizers plan to thank the classic car community for their dedication by offering a photo contest and Facebook Live event from 5-9 p.m. June 18.
From May 28 through June 3, individuals may submit a picture of their classic car by messaging the West Fargo Cruise Night Facebook page.
Photos will be placed in a photo album and members of the public will be able to vote for their favorite by "liking" it.
The first round of voting will be from June 4 through June 10.
Following the initial voting, the top 10 photos will be available for final voting from June 11 through June 17.
During the Facebook Live event on June 18, members of the Toppers Custom Car Club — including AM 970 WDAY radio host Jay Thomas — will count down the top 10 photos and announce the official winner at the end of the event.
The winner will receive a prize package.
