While the annual parade and street dance may have had to been cancelled due in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, West Fargoans will still have a chance to celebrate their city with a week of events including the annual Taste of West Fargo and one last Cruise Night.

West Fest Celebration will run through this week and include live events as well as virtual opportunities such as a digital scavenger hunt that begins Monday, Sept. 14.

West Fargo Communications Director Melissa Richard said a number of events celebrating West Fest can still be enjoyed, especially new events such as the arts and crafts stations that will be provided by the West Fargo Library in partnership with the Little Red Reading Bus on Saturday at the POW/MIA Plaza.

"If any organization has really had to look at how they provide services during this time, it has been the library," Richard said. "They have really stepped up and will be helping host some very fun events during West Fest. "

Saturday's full slate of events will end with a "Sip and Shop" at The Yards, or northern Sheyenne Street.

The family-friendly event will allow those old enough to enjoy an adult beverage while browsing the local businesses as well as vendors that will join the area.

2020 is the first year that West Fargo Events will share in planning of the city's major events such as West Fest and Cruise Nights.

The City Commission approved designating the nonprofit, which already manages even ts at the the city owned venues of The POW/MIA Plaza, and the plaza at the Lights on Sheyenne, earlier this year.

Richard said although West Fargo Events will manage the events, the city celebrations are still hosted by the City of West Fargo. She likened hiring West Fargo Events to a bride and groom hiring a wedding planner.

"Even though you've hired a wedding planner to help with vendors and those such things, it is still your wedding," Richard said.

Social distancing during the West Fargo events is requested of the public.
