A new Sanford West Fargo Clinic is nearing completion and on time to open about Aug. 26, a senior Sanford official said.
The two-story clinic going up just west of the current clinic at 13th Avenue South and Sheyenne Street is “really coming along,” according to Susan Jarvis, vice president of operations for Sanford Health Fargo.
The 26,000-square-foot clinic will offer family practice, obstetrics, pediatric services and a laboratory, Jarvis said Tuesday, June 25. Sanford also hopes to add internal medicine specialists to the staff.
Just like Sanford’s Moorhead clinic and the new Veterans Square clinic, the new West Fargo clinic will move to a “self-rooming” model. Patients will enter, go to a kiosk, be given a tag and assigned a room. The tag will then notify nurses and doctors that the patient is waiting, Jarvis said.
Jarvis said the self-rooming system offers more privacy, as patients don’t have to offer up health or identifying information in a semi-public setting - or be exposed to other people’s germs.
“That’s kind of using technology for patient privacy. It’s very popular at the Moorhead clinic,” Jarvis said. “It’s a better use of space, too, so we don’t have to have a dedicated space for waiting.”
In May, Sanford officials said the new clinic would cost about $10 million to build.
The current West Fargo clinic at 1220 Sheyenne St. has been part of the Sanford system for many years, Jarvis said, but the single-story structure “has pretty much outlived its useful life. It’s been a good clinic for us. We have providers that have been out there their whole careers.”
Once the new clinic opens, the old clinic will be torn down and that space used for additional parking, Jarvis said.
Sanford Health is headquartered in Sioux Falls, S.D. The organization includes 44 hospitals, 1,400 physicians and more than 200 Good Samaritan Society senior care locations in 26 states and nine countries.
