The Red River Valley Fair opens Tuesday, July 9, with an exciting array of food options, agriculture exhibitions, midway attractions and grandstand performers.

There will be a slightly new look to the RRVF this year as the midway is run by Crabtree Amusements, which will bring in anticipated rides like the Fireball, Orbiter, Giant Wheel and Freak Out.

With these scream machines in mind, we looked at the grandstand acts to find songs that would also be appealing names for these motorized nightmare-makers.

Best known for “Fishing in the Dark” and a cover of Jerry Jeff Walker’s “Mr. Bojangles,” this 53-year-old band has seen enough ups and downs to know a thing or two about wild rides. Their cover of Hank Williams’ “Honky Tonkin’” seems like a fun fit for the first day of the fair.

Wednesday: Hairball

Let’s be honest, fair rides seem like they were named by teenage boys — and teenage boys like hard rock. When it comes to this head-banging tribute act, take your choice of any 1970s or ’80s anthems, like "Unchained,” “Back in Black,” “Love Gun” or “Live Wire,” but nothing sounds as exhilarating as “going off the rails on a crazy train.”

Thursday: Josh Turner

The baritone singer made a name for himself with a cautionary song about resisting temptation, but we’d hop on the chugging “Long Black Train.”

Friday: Theory of a Deadman

These Canadian rockers have plenty of edgy numbers that would be perfect for a carnival attraction, like “Straight Jacket” and “Lowlife,” so their recent cover of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” seemed like a downshift to a merry-go-round. We like them better loud and think “Bad Girlfriend” would drive you spin-sane.

Saturday: Kip Moore

This Nashville singer covers standard country territory on tunes like “Somethin’ ’Bout a Truck,” “Beer Money,” “Hey Pretty Girl” and “Dirt Road,” but “The Bull” offers a real wild ride.
