Last month, Fargo Marathon organizers canceled the popular race among runners. In preparation for what would have been race day — this Saturday, Aug. 29 — organizers spray paint white arrows on Fargo roads.
Organizers said these arrows will help marathon runners find the course this weekend for the virtual race.
Virtual runners can complete the race and submit their times at any point, but Mark Knutson, Fargo Marathon director said many local runners are going to run on race day.
So the organizers decided to help them out, marking the original route for them.
"At least they will have the right route and the distance should be accurate - so that's what we are doing I'm out painting the arrows and mile markers," he said. "It's a good Monday morning project."
He said local running groups are planning to start at the Fargodome at 7 a.m and encouraged people along the route to support them.
"If you've got a boom box or music box or whatever you've got come out and play music for the runners that will be fun. Just try to make it as fun as you can," he said.
