IThe June 1979 West Fargo School District election was between two candidates; Jackie Brodshaug, incumbent and board president and George Foldsey, an associate professor of education at North Dakota State University and whose wife taught at West Fargo High. The two issues: Should more than two present or former educators be on the school board and should the board begin merger talks with the Fargo School District. Brodshaug opposed merger talks. Foldsey won 353-349.

When the Fair opened in mid-June 2004, it marked the centennial of the Red River Valley Fair. For many years the Fair was located in Fargo, but in 1965 it was moved to West Fargo because the former fairgrounds had been taken up ty the construction of Fargo North High School. In 1975 the Fair took place in the “new” West Acres Shopping Center because the location in West Fargo was flooded. The Centennial Fair included exhibits, a midway, many kinds of food, and entertainment ranging from country and rock music to stock car racing – something for everyone.
