WEST FARGO – The West Fargo Police Department has hired nine new police officers and three clerks since fall of 2014. They are:

Officer Ryan L. Feltman

Originally from Grafton, N.D., Feltman graduated from Grafton High School in 2000.

He studied criminal justice at Minnesota State Community Technical College from 2005-07 and Minnesota State University Moorhead from 2007-09. He was in the U.S.Navy from 2002-05. Feltman was hired as a full-time West Fargo patrol officer in August 2014.

Officer Benjamin M. Orr

Orr grew up in Baldwin, Wis., graduating from Baldwin-Woodville High School in 2004. After attending Chippewa Valley Technical College, he worked for Woodville Police Department from 2007-10 and Baldwin Police Department from 2010-14. In September 2014, he was hired as a West Fargo patrol officer.

Officer Ryan R. Haskell

Haskell grew up in Fargo, graduating from Fargo South High School in 2001. He graduated from North Dakota State University in 2005 with double bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice and sociology. He worked for the police department in Lincoln, N.D., and for the NDSU police department. Haskell was hired by the West Fargo Police Department in November 2014 as a patrol officer.

Officer Michael A. Kane

Kane was born and raised in Fargo and graduated from Fargo North High in 2002. In 2009, he received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Minnesota State University. He was a police officer in Devils Lake, N.D., and Carrington, N.D., and was hired by West Fargo in December 2014 as a full-time patrol officer.

Officer Derek C. Werner

Werner graduated from Grafton High School in 1997. He received his bachelor’s degree in criminology at Regis University in Denver. He moved back to North Dakota and worked for the North Dakota Division of Juvenile Services while completing police officer basic training through Lake Region State College in 2014. He was hired by West Fargo in December 2014 as a patrol officer.

Officer Mackenzie J. Carr

Raised in McGregor, Minn., Carr graduated from McGregor High School in 2008. He attended Alexandria Technical College, graduating with an associate degree in law enforcement. He worked security for the Hennepin County government buildings in downtown Minneapolis. In 2013, Carr worked for the Douglas County (Minn.) Sheriff’s Office as a water patrol deputy. He accepted a full-time patrol position with West Fargo in January.

Officer Aaron S. Ostlund

Ostlund grew up in Moorhead and graduated high school in 2010. He attended Bemidji State University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in spring 2014. He attended Alexandria Technical College and graduated from its 10-week law enforcement skills program. Ostlund was hired by the Clay County Jail in August 2014 as a correctional officer. He was hired as a West Fargo patrol officer in March.

Officer Brock A. Ackerman

Ackerman, of Montevideo, Minn., graduated high school there in 2009. He attended the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) on an athletic scholarship from 2009-13 and finished his criminal justice bachelor’s degree from NDSU in 2013. He attended Alexandria Technical College’s police skills training program during summer 2014. Ackerman worked for Yellow Medicine County (Minn.) Jail in the fall of 2014. He was hired by West Fargo in April as a patrol officer.

Officer Michael D. Pietron

Originally from Larimore, N.D., Pietron graduated from Larimore High School in 2011. He graduated from NDSU in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. After going to the police academy in north Fargo, Pietron became a West Fargo patrol officer in April.

Police Clerk Sarah E. Gaudes

Raised in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Gaudes graduated in 2006 from Stephenson High School. She attended Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., from 2006-10. After the university cut her program, Gaudes reverse transferred to Bay de Noc Community College in Escanaba, graduating in May 2012 with three concurrent associate degrees in office administration. She worked for a real estate appraiser in Fargo before being hired in April as a full-time police clerk in West Fargo.

Police Clerk Sabrina A. Symonds

Symonds was born and raised in Foster County, N.D., graduating from Carrington High School in 2005. She attended the North Dakota Highway Patrol Law Enforcement Training Academy in 2007. She worked in corrections from 2007 to 2009 before moving to Colorado Springs, Colo. Symonds attended the University of Phoenix from 2009-14 and was hired at West Fargo Police Department in May as a police clerk.

Police Clerk Bryan A. Elstad

Elstad grew up in West Fargo and graduated from West Fargo High School in 2004. He graduated from NDSU with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 2009. He worked as a juvenile counselor at Moorhead Juvenile Detention for 2½ years and as a medical oxygen technician at Northwest Respiratory. Elstad was hired in August as a police clerk with the West Fargo Police Department.
